ABOUT THE SOCIAL PURPOSE INSTITUTE CoNECT
Social Purpose Institute (SPI) at United Way (UW): The UW's SPI aims to further the Purpose Economy through accelerating the Social Purpose Business movement by helping companies authentically pivot to Purpose, conducting research, convening and collaborating. Because nothing this ambitious or auspicious can be achieved by one organization alone, we need to have a map of the Purpose Eco-system in Canada. This map will enable new strategic connections and collaborations to further the Purpose Economy, and help realize tipping points, creating a flow of knowledge, skills and connection between our communities to enable the Purpose economy, by developing a transformative roadmap.
The SPI has already developed a set of resources and case studies to help companies understand social purpose and its benefits and has helped 30 companies clearly define their Social Purpose and embed it across the whole company. It is convening the first ever Purpose Summit, 'Propelling Purpose: The Road to the Purposeful Economy' on November 17 & 18, 2021 (contact SPI for more details).
WHAT IS A SOCIAL PURPOSE BUSINESS?
"We define a social purpose business as “a company whose enduring reason for being is to create a better world. It is an engine for good, creating social benefits by the very act of conducting business. Its growth is a positive force in society”. The social purpose could include an environmental purpose.
WHAT IS A SOCIAL PURPOSE ECONOMY?
"We define the Purpose Economy as “an Economy which is powered by the pursuit of long-term well-being for all in which business and regulatory and financial systems foster an equitable, flourishing and resilient future”.
